Looking back
Stephan Colombo, who grew up in the Aletsch Arena destination in Valais, worked for almost 40 years for several companies as a fitter in the construction and maintenance of cable cars in various countries around the world.
The tedious and time-consuming work involved in overhauling pulley batteries on gondola and chairlifts, combined with the use of helicopters, trucks or cranes, gave him the idea of developing an inspection platform that travels on the cable of a chairlift or gondola lift and on which maintenance and inspection work can be carried out directly on the supports.
After years of tinkering, the current Colombo ReviGondola® was put into operation in 2022 in collaboration with IWK. Since then, numerous inspections have been successfully carried out using the Colombo inspection concept.
A crack testing bench and several special tools have been developed for the efficient and ergonomic execution of inspection work on the Colombo ReviGondola®.
